                          Benton Harbor doctor takes leap of faith By JULIE SWIDWA / H-P Staff Writer | Posted: Sunday, September 12, 2004 12:00 am BENTON HARBOR -- He considers it a leap of faith, but one he's willing to take."I'm a very spiritual man. I don't need a lot of money. We'll see what happens," said Dr. Don Tynes, a Benton Harbor physician who has decided to open his own practice in the city.Tynes specializes in internal medicine and pediatrics and previously worked at Intercare Health Network in Benton Harbor."Having my own practice will allow me more freedom and flexibility to do my community work," he said.His new clinic will open Monday at 1686 Colfax Ave. and will be called Benton Harbor Health Care Center.Tynes said he will specialize in diabetes, hypertension, men's health and weight loss programs, and will offer marriage counseling and family planning.He said he'll continue his work with the Future Doctors - Future Leaders Club he started at the Boys & Girls Club of Benton Harbor.Tynes said he'll accept all insurances, Medicaid and Medicare."It's a fact that if you take 20 percent or more Medicaid or Medicare, you'll go broke within the first 90 days. This is a leap of faith for me. But I'm a poor man anyway, and I don't need a lot of money," Tynes said.Born and raised in Harlem, New York, Tynes graduated from Wayne State University's School of Medicine in Detroit. Tynes came to Benton Harbor in 2000.His clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on Saturday mornings by appointment.
